Week #6 Reflection
Well this week has been informative for me. I have begun to use the data and differentiate in my classroom based on what I learned. By doing this, I am now focusing on what my students need on a daily basis and not what I think they might need the week before. I am actually thinking about changing up method of planning that I have used for years. My regular routine is that I plan for the week by Monday. It is never something that I feel I have to stick to, but instead it is like a guide for me. What I am contemplating trying is to plan my unit and list all the different possibilities that can be done during the unit, depending on what my students need. I would give myself an allotted amount of time to teach all of the material, but I would focus more on what my students need and not stressing about following a pacing guide that I had created. I am not sure if I am ready to do this yet, but it is definitely something that I am considering.
Another area that I made a decision with was that I would not be able to do survey monkeys as my exit ticket. I still like the idea of adding that type of technology in my class, but I think that it is more important for students to get their feedback from the exit tickets than it is to use the technology. During this past week, I have found that students want to see how they did on their exit ticket and fix their mistakes or confirm that they understood the problems.
I have provided feedback and support to my peers during the Tuesday twitter sessions, responses to blog comments, and conversations through e-mails and when attending another class. I provided encouragement when my peers were feelings frustrated and confused. I offered suggestions for people to try things in class and possible other ways to collect data. During the twitter session, I provided feedback and my opinion. I still struggle with the twitter session because it always feels so hectic and impersonal.
I am looking forward to this upcoming week and for me to begin analyzing the data. I feel like I am learning things, but I also am a little apprehensive of how I am going to analyze and report on the data. This upcoming week I will need to post my initial posting early because I will be at an overnight with my students and know that I will be too tired on Friday night to come home and write my blog.
